Upper eyelid hooding can occur due to an underlying condition of ptosis, commonly known as drooping eyelid. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is the gold standard to address this condition, but not every patient may be ready to undergo an invasive procedure to correct the problem of drooping eyelid.
In such cases, the treatment provider may recommend non-surgical or minimally invasive treatments as a viable alternative.
Dr. Jennifer Hui is an experienced oculoplastic surgeon providing both surgical and non-surgical treatment options to address the condition of ptosis or drooping upper eyelid. Patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Coachella Valley, Riverside, Redlands, Yucaipa, Loma Linda, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive these treatments from Dr. Hui.
10-Minute Eye Lift
A 10-minute eye lift is an innovative, minimally invasive approach to correcting the appearance of a droopy upper lid. The procedure is quick and simple, but creates highly effective outcomes. The surgeon will first mark the redundant portion of the underside of the hooded area of the upper eyelid, which is hidden from view, and then inject it with a tiny amount of local anesthetic.
Thereafter, a heated probe will be run along the marked areas until shrinkage and retraction of the hooding occurs, and the actual upper lid becomes sufficiently exposed. Once this is done, the resulting wound line is treated with an ointment to help it heal without suturing.
The technique can be used to treat both upper eyelids, and an experienced eye surgeon will take about five minutes for each eyelid. That is what gives the procedure the name of a 10-minute eye lift. Most patients will be able to return to their regular activities immediately after the procedure, but a few may like to rest for a day.
The patient will experience minor swelling, tenderness and a small amount of drainage and scabbing along the treatment line. This can be addressed simply by cleaning the area and applying a prescribed skin lubricant or antibiotic ointment. Complete healing of the wound will occur in about seven to 10 days. A thin, linear scar is likely to occur, but it will remain concealed under the now tightened and less droopy upper eyelid.

Additional Treatment Options
Certain prescription eye drops may be used to improve the condition of ptosis for a few hours. The treatment may be repeated everyday to maintain the look. If the muscle is causing the eyelid to close, the treatment provider may use Botox injections.
Various laser treatments are now available, which can be applied to tighten the upper lid skin and underlying tissue. These highly precise laser treatments can also help to reduce the effect of wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes. Cosmetic filler injections may be used in specific cases where a low brow is causing excessive skin to cover the upper lid.
