Ptosis occurs when the muscles that help the eyes opened are weak. Drooping eyelids may partially or fully cover the pupil in this condition and the eyes may have a glassy look. Ptosis corrective cosmetic surgery as well as non-incisional ptosis correction may be possible to restore the normal eyelid condition.
During the initial consultation, the surgeon will explain the benefits and limitations of both incisional and non-incisional ptosis correction procedures.
Outstanding and cordial oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Hui provides ptosis correction to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Coachella Valley, Riverside, Redlands, Yucaipa, Loma Linda, and surrounding communities in this region of the country.
Candidates for Non-Incisional Correction
With a non-incisional ptosis correction procedure, the patient can achieve similar benefits as the ptosis surgery. The surgeon may look for the following characteristics in a patient to determine their candidacy for a non-incision ptosis correction:
- The patient is bothered by a sleepy look because of the eyelids covering the eyes.
- There is asymmetry between the eyes.
- The patient wants to avoid ptosis surgery.
- The patient may have had no change even after double eyelid surgery.
- The patient wants faster recovery without affecting their social life.
- The patient wants to avoid any risk of visible scarring.
In case of ptosis correction without incision, any risks that are typically associated with a surgical procedure are avoided. As there is no surgical incision, the possibility of prominent visible scarring is eliminated. Recovery is rapid and very minor swelling may occur because of a non-incisional procedure. Results are safe and predictable, involving minimal discomfort or downtime.
10-Minute Eye Lift
A 10-minute eye lift is a minimally invasive procedure designed to improve the appearance of a droopy upper eyelid. Very effective results can be obtained with this efficient and simple procedure. As a first step, the surgeon will mark the redundant portion of the underside of the hooded area of the upper lid, which is hidden from view.
The surgeon will then administer a small amount of local anesthetic using an injection. Once the area is numbed, the surgeon will run along a heated probe along the marked sites to achieve retraction and shrinkage of the hooding. This will allow the upper eyelid to become adequately exposed. Once the procedure is completed, the surgeon will treat the resulting wound line with an ointment to help it heal without suturing.
The procedure can be performed on both upper eyelids. An experienced eye surgeon will only take about five minutes to treat each eyelid. While most patients may go back to their normal routine immediately after the treatment, a few may choose to rest for a day.
Minor swelling, tenderness and a small amount of drainage and scabbing along the treatment line may occur after the non-incisional ptosis correction procedure. The patient should clean the area and apply the prescribed ointment or lubricant.
In about a week’s time, full healing will occur.
