Once a person has short-listed a surgeon for an eyelid lift cosmetic surgery procedure, the first step should be to schedule a consultation with the surgeon. A detailed consultation will provide a roadmap for a successful surgery, and enable the surgeon to create a surgical plan customized according to the unique anatomical and aesthetic needs of the patient.
The consultation will serve as an opportunity for the patient to clarify their doubts and concerns, and make a well-considered decision about eyelid lift procedure. Dr. Jennifer Hui is an oculoplastic surgeon providing eyelid lift to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Coachella Valley, Riverside, Redlands, Yucaipa, Loma Linda, and surrounding locations across the horizon.
Educating the Patient
The surgeon will utilize the consultation opportunity to educate the patient about all aspects of eyelid surgery, and explain the treatment options and techniques that may be appropriate to their condition. The patient will learn about the surgeon’s credentials, the steps involved in the procedure, and the estimated costs, insurance and financing issues. Well-informed patients are typically more confident about the surgery and are in a position to make better choices.
Cosmetic Goal Setting
During the consultation for eyelid surgery, one of the first things that the surgeon would like to understand is the reason why the patient wants to undergo this procedure. Once the surgeon understands what exactly about their eye appearance may be bothering the patient, they can incorporate the patient’s inputs into the customized surgical plan for an eyelid procedure. The surgeon’s goal will be to perform a targeted surgery that is less invasive and yet meets the patient’s goals more effectively.
The surgeon will review the patient’s past medical records and examine their current health condition. They will assess the patient’s eye anatomy, amount of skin laxity in the upper and lower eyelids, dark circles and depressions below the eyelids, skin type, and any signs of an untreated infection in the areas to be addressed.
The patient should fully disclose information related to any smoking habit and any prescription or non-prescription drugs that they may be currently using. They should also inform the surgeon if they have received an eye procedure previously, including LASIK surgery. Stellar and hard working eye surgeon Dr. Hui receives patients from Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Coachella Valley, Riverside, Redlands, Yucaipa, Loma Linda, and nearby areas for eyelid surgery.
Pre- and Post-Surgical Instructions
At the time of initial consultation, the surgeon will provide preparatory as well as post-op recovery care instructions to the patient. If the patient has a habit of smoking, they will be required to avoid smoking for a few weeks prior to the eyelid surgery. The surgeon may also alter the schedule of some of the ongoing medications of the patient in consultation with the physician.
The surgeon or their staff will advise the patient to make timely arrangements for transportation to return home after the surgery. If the patient is working, they may be advised to apply for leave from the workplace for at least one week. If required, the patient may also arrange for aftercare for a few days to ensure a more comfortable post-surgical recovery.
