Revision eyelid lift cosmetic surgery (revision blepharoplasty) is a procedure that can correct any imperfections that may have occurred during or after a primary blepharoplasty.
The surgeon will aim to reduce the signs of aging around the eyelids and develop a more youthful upper face appearance.
The surgeon will perform the procedure in multiple steps, which can differ slightly depending on the level of correction required in the upper, lower, or both lids.
During the pre-operative consultation, the surgeon will explain various aspects of revision blepharoplasty to the patient, including the steps involved in the procedure.
Oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Hui provides advanced solutions for various eye ailments as well as cosmetic facial concerns to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Coachella Valley, Riverside, Redlands, Yucaipa, Loma Linda, and surrounding communities.
Revision blepharoplasty is typically undertaken using local anesthesia or mild sedation. In case the procedure is being performed in combination with another procedure, or if the patient feels very nervous and anxious, the surgeon may recommend general anesthesia.
A qualified anesthesiologist or anesthetic nurse will administer the general anesthesia and monitor the entire procedure to assess the patient’s response to the anesthesia.
Revision Eyelid Surgery for the Lower Eyelids
Once the anesthesia takes effect, the surgeon will place tiny incisions in strategic locations to ensure that any future scarring remains discreet.
The natural creases in the skin underneath the lower lids are appropriate for placing small, inconspicuous incisions. The surgeon will remove excess skin and fat through these incisions as well as tighten loose underlying muscles.
In case the area under the lower lids appears depressed, the surgeon may use dermal fillers or transfer fat to address the hollows. After the surgery is complete, the surgeon will close the incisions carefully with sutures.
Revision Eyelid Surgery for the Upper Eyelids
The surgeon will make the incisions in the natural creases of the upper eyelid after the patient is under the effect of the anesthetic. This reduces any conspicuous scarring from the procedure.
They will delicately remove any excess skin to address the drooping effect of the upper eyelids and partial vision obstruction if any. In addition, they will tighten the underlying weakened muscles.
After excising the sagging skin, the surgeon will lift and reattach the remaining skin to develop a more youthful appearance and rejuvenated appearance. They will seal the incisions after the procedure is complete.
Revision Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty
If the skin in the eyelids does not have sufficient laxity, although there are excess fatty deposits around the lids, the surgeon may recommend a revision transconjunctival blepharoplasty procedure to the patient. This procedure is less invasive and more suitable for patients who do not have very noticeable under eye bags.
This revision blepharoplasty procedure involves the surgeon making multiple small incisions within the lower lid after anesthesia.
They will remove excess fatty deposits through these incisions. The removal of skin and muscle tightening is not involved in this procedure. Since the incisions are placed inside the lids, there will be no scarring on the outside.
