The Pharmanex BioPhotonic Scanner is an advanced patented tool that measures the levels of carotenoid in living tissue in a noninvasive manner providing an instant indication of an individual’s overall antioxidant levels. It offers immediate information on a person’s antioxidant status.
This helps people make adjustments to their diet and lifestyle as well as make enlightened decisions on the supplements that are adequately formulated to affect their antioxidant health.
Experienced oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Hui provides eyelid surgery and other procedures to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Coachella Valley, Riverside, Redlands, Yucaipa, Loma Linda, and surrounding locations.
How does the Scanner Work?
The Pharmanex BioPhotonic Scanner is the first measuring tool of its kind in the world and offers a Skin Carotenoid Score (SCS) which is instant evidence of the carotenoid antioxidant activity in the body.
The scanners require a person to place the palm of their hand in front of the scanner’s safe and low energy blue light to acquire a reading of the carotenoid antioxidant levels in their skin. The Skin Carotenoid Score (SCS) has been scientifically linked to the overall antioxidant status in the body.
This technology is based on an optical method called Resonant Raman Spectroscopy which has been employed for a number of years in research labs.
The Scanner measures the level of carotenoid in human tissue at the skin’s surface via optical signals. These signals seek out the unique molecular structure of carotenoids enabling their measurement without the interference of other molecular substances and providing the individual being measured with their own SCS.
In under a minute, a person can receive information on whether their diet, lifestyle and supplements offer them the antioxidant protection they require for promoting optimal health. The S3 Pharmanex BioPhotonic Scanner has changed the way we perceive our health.
What does the Scanner do?
The person being measured places the palm of their hand in front of the Scanner’s safe, low-energy blue light. They will then obtain an instant reading of the antioxidant levels in their skin or their Skin Carotenoid Score.
Why should I be scanned?
The Scanner offers a correct and reliable biomarker of the overall antioxidant health status in comparison to other antioxidant measuring methods by assessing the stable carotenoid antioxidant level in the skin and generating the SCS.
The SCS provides information on the antioxidant levels in their body and gives them the push they need to enhance their overall antioxidant health.
What does the Scanner Measure?
The Scanner technology is based on the principle of light, and the fundamental particle of light is a photon. White light comprises photons of various wavelengths which are represented by colors.
The Scanner generates a narrow light beam in which all of the photons are the same color, which is blue. The wavelength of the blue light is 478 nanometers (nm).
Something interesting occurs when a 478 nm photon of light comes into contact with a carotenoid. The energy level of a 478 nm photon becomes excited to 518 nm, which is the wavelength associated with green light. This helps measure the carotenoid concentration in the skin.
The number of photons at the 518 nm wavelength is proportional to the concentration of carotenoids in the skin. For this reason, these green photons are counted to determine the person’s SCS.
